2019 America’s Transportation Award

The I-84 Waterbury Widening Project was chosen by Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO) as a regional finalist for the national America’s Transportation Awards program, winning in the “Operations Excellence, Large Project” category, and a National Finalist (1 of 12) for Project of the Year.

Sponsored by AASHTO, AAA, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the America’s Transportation Awards competition was created to showcase all tremendous projects delivered by our state departments of transportation every year to tell the broader story on the importance of transportation. Ours was one of twelve regional projects selected from eighty-one DOT nominations from across the country to compete for the Grand Prize and for the People’s Choice Award, in categories including: “Quality of Life/Community Development,” “Best Use of Technology and Innovation,” and “Operations Excellence.”.

2019 Arthur W. Gruhn Excellence in Construction Award

The I-84 Waterbury Project won this award in the category of “Excellence in Construction for Large Project.” The Arthur Gruhn Excellence in Construction Awards competition began in 2008 as a joint program between CTDOT and in construction industry to highlight and showcase the high quality of projects delivered for the public benefit in the state of Connecticut. In 2019, eighteen nomination were submitted, and six projects were honored in the following categories: “Large,” “Challenging,” “Innovative,” and “Small.”

CMAA 2019 Project Achievement Award

The I-84 Waterbury Widening Project won this award in the category for “Best Infrastructure Project over $25 Million.” Connecticut Chapter of Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) recognizes outstanding Connecticut projects in both infrastructure and building construction, and they also present $1,000 scholarships to many undergraduate and/or graduate students earning a degree in either civil engineering or construction management.
