Construction Notice - Daytime Blasting Operations for I-84 Reconstruction Project to Begin 05/05/2015

Daytime blasting operations are scheduled to begin on the I-84 Waterbury Reconstruction Project on Tuesday, May 5, 2015. Traffic stoppages will be occurring between 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM on I-84 and on Hamilton Avenue on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays to remove rock in the area of Exit 23 Eastbound Off Ramp just west of Hamilton Avenue.

The controlled removal of rock is scheduled to occur over several months throughout the project, likely extending into 2016. The work is part of the widening of I-84 to add a third lane in each direction and for the relocation of the western end of Reidville Drive adjacent to Harpers Ferry Road.

Lane Closure Info: Slow moving roadblocks on I-84 will be used to facilitate the halting of traffic and motorists can expect significant delays in the area.

During blasting operations, traffic on I-84 in both directions as well as traffic on adjacent ramps and roadways will be halted for 5 to 10 minute intervals between the hours of 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM.

Variable message signs will be used to provide advance warning of events and to provide information on traffic conditions in the area.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is working to inform local residents of current and upcoming construction activities through project newsletters, press notices, travel alerts, social media, as well as the I-84 Waterbury project website.
